Tramicka James scored two goals, including the 50th of her
career, and added two assists as Tusculum College defeated Brevard
College 6-0 in South Atlantic Conference Women's soccer action
Wednesday night at Pioneer Field.
James scored in the 15th and 53rd minutes to become the third
player in program history to reach the 50-goal plateau, joining
Rachel Barron (66 from 2000-03) and Kelsa Eschman (55 from
1998-01).
Amy Neltner, Taylor Lewis, Kim Brown and Alisha Pugh also scored
for the Pioneers (7-1-1, 3-0-0 SAC), who extended their unbeaten
streak to seven matches (six wins, one tie) with the victory over
the Tornados (1-7-1, 0-3-0 SAC).
Tusculum, which is tied for fifth in the latest NSCAA Southeast
Region rankings, dominated the match against Brevard, finishing
with a 32-2 advantage in shots and an 11-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Pioneers peppered 22 shots on the Tornados' goal, forcing
starting keeper Brittany Webster to make 14 saves.
Neltner opened the scoring just 3:23 into the match as she gathered
a cross from James and fired home her first goal of the season.
James extended the lead to 2-0 at 14:33 when she collected a
misplayed ball in the box and deposited her sixth goal.
Lewis made it 3-0 Tusculum at 26:15 as she picked up a quick pass
from James and blasted home her fourth goal of the season and third
in as many matches. Brown gave the Pioneers a 4-0 lead at 34:38 as
she took a wide pass from Gabrielle Whitt and dribbled into the
box, then beat Webster for her fourth of the season.
In the second half, James notched her second of the match, seventh
of the season and 50th of her career at 52:22 as a cross by Neltner
was deflected by Nikki Arthur to James, who finished for a 5-0
Tusculum lead. Pugh closed out the scoring at 57:57 by heading home
a corner kick by Amy Morford to record her third goal of the
year.
Marissa Williams played the first half in goal for the Pioneers and
made two saves before giving way to freshman Emily Pannocchia for
the second half, who did not face a shot in her 45 minutes of
action.
Tusculum will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a
non-conference match at Belmont Abbey.
