Women's SOCCER FALLS TO LENOIR-RHYNE 3-1 ON SENIOR DAY

Cassy Melnike GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College women's soccer team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne University 3-1 on senior day, breaking up the shutout bid on Cassy Melnike's first career goal late in the match. Tusculum moves to 10-8-1 overall and 4-4 in the South Atlantic Conference, while Lenoir-Rhyne improves to 12-5-2 and 4-3-1 in conference play.

Lenoir-Rhyne opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Laura Linehan found the back of the net after a lead pass from Michelle Garcia, giving the Bears an early 1-0 advantage which would hold until halftime.

Linehan doubled the L-R lead to 2-0 with her second goal of the match in the 67th minute, taking a cross from Megan Tetrev and directing it firmly into the far bottom corner. Lenoir-Rhyne extended the advantage to 3-0 in the closing seconds of the 73rd minute on Kelsey Eidson's first goal of the match off a corner kick by Garcia. The Pioneers cut the lead to 3-1 midway through the 83rd minute, when Melnike tapped in the rebound after the Bears' keeper could not hold on to Nicole Ferris' free kick.

Tusculum edged the Bears 12-11 in shots during the match as Lenoir-Rhyne's Katelyn Burwell made five saves to quell the Pioneer attack. Megan Kurtz played the full 90 minutes in net for the black and orange, making three saves. Senior Danielle Tanner took a team-high seven shots, while Ferris added her seventh assist of the season in her final regular season match with the Pioneers.

The Pioneers now await the result of tonight's SAC match between Newberry and Carson-Newman that will determine the pairings for the SAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday.
