SALISBURY, N.C. -- Freshman Alexa Baird scored a pair of second-half goals to lift host Catawba to a 3-1 win over Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference Women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the SAC, garnering a league-leading 13 points. The Pioneers fall to 9-5 and 2-3.
Tasha Wilhelm opened the scoring in the ninth minute, getting an assist from Carrie Wollaston. Tusculum battled back to tie the score just 30 seconds in the final half on a tally by Danielle Tanner.
Baird would put the Lady Indians up to stay at the 56:24 mark as she scored off a feed from Lainey Nichols. The defender would get another goal in the 62nd minute on a header from Alyssa Schoenberg and Lauren Whiteley.
Senior Kathleen Blake had three saves in goal for Catawba. Tori Hadjopoulos had two stops for Tusculum. The Pioneers return to action Monday when they travel to Savannah, Ga. to face nationally-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University.
