25th-ranked Limestone beats Pioneers 18-3

GAFFNEY, S.C. --- Limestone University defeated Tusculum University 18-3 in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.

The 25th-ranked Saints (6-3, 4-0 SAC) outshot the Pioneers (4-4, 1-2 SAC) by a 41-9 margin, and were led by four goals apiece from Keira Martin and Sophie Shortino, alone with three goals and three assists from Joscelin Martin.

Liberty Jones, Cassidy Bourne and Jessie Carolin-Vandenberg scored goals for the Pioneers, who were beaten 17-7 on draws and had 17 turnovers to 10 for the Saints.

Limestone led 9-0 after one quarter and held a 12-0 lead until Bourne got the Pioneers on the board with 3:41 left in the first half. Jones scored with 3:03 to go in the third quarter and Carolin-Vandenberg tallied with 9:52 remaining in the fourth period to close the scoring for the Pioneers.

Erin Young had nine draw controls for the Saints, while Brooke Surace had four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Mya Halladay and Sophia Didzbalis each had two draw controls for the Pioneers.

Emily White finished with a season-high 17 saves while becoming the third player in program history to surpass 300 career saves, joining Kate Pipkin (340 saves from 2018-22) and Brooke Wagner (330 saves from 2015-18) with 307 career stops. For Limestone, Emma McCoy and Tristan Schkade split the time in goal and each had one save.

The Pioneers visit 20th-ranked Wingate (6-1, 2-0 SAC) on Saturday at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs shut out Mars Hill 22-0 on Saturday for their third straight win.
