SALISBURY, N.C. --- Abby Lockwood scored twice in the final five minutes to complete a Tusculum University rally and give the Pioneers a 12-10 win over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Wednesday at Shuford Stadium.

Lockwood gave the Pioneers (3-3, 1-1 SAC) their first lead of the game with 4:28 left and added an insurance tally exactly one minute later, while the Tusculum defense shut out Catawba in the fourth quarter. The Indians (1-4, 0-1 SAC) scored just one goal in the final 27 minutes after taking a 9-6 lead early in the third quarter.

Lucy Brewer led the Pioneers with five goals and 11 draw controls, while Kylie Marek had two goals and an assist. Lockwood finished with two goals for the Pioneers, with Liberty Jones collecting a goal and two assists and both Cassidy Bourne and Alyssa Holden contributing a goal and an assist. Paetyn Hoffmann had two assists for the Pioneers, who earned their first-ever win at Catawba in four visits.

Abby Shuren led Catawba with three goals, with two goals apiece from Sarah Maier and Mary Sorvillo and one each from Mackenzie Mullan, Jenna Hirvonen and Caroline Cox. Tusculum outshot Catawba 27-24 and had a 17-8 advantage in draw controls in the match.

Catawba scored twice in the first eight minutes before Tusculum tied the game at 2-2 on goals by Brewer and Marek. Maier scored twice in a span of 89 seconds to put Catawba up 4-2 with 1:37 left in the first quarter, but Holden responded with 29 seconds left to cut the Indians' lead to 4-3 after one.

The Indians would take a 7-4 lead on a goal from Shuren with 6:22 left in the first half, but goals from Bourne and Brewer pulled the Pioneer back within 7-6 with 3:41 to play. Shuren's second of the game gave Catawba an 8-6 lead that the Indians would carry into halftime.

Mullan put the Indians on top 9-6 with 11:59 left in the third quarter, but goals 32 seconds apart from Brewer and Marek would again bring Tusculum within a goal at 9-8. Brewer tied the game with 4:33 left in the third quarter, but Shuren scored what would be the last goal of the day for the Indians with 3:16 left for a 10-9 Catawba lead heading to the fourth.

Tusculum tied the game at 10-10 on a Jones goal with 9:27 to play, and the teams would exchange several possessions before Lockwood put the Pioneers on top 11-10 with 4:28 left. Zuza Stasiak won the next draw for the Pioneers, and Lockwood connected on a free-position shot for a 12-10 Tusculum lead with 3:28 to go. The Indians would turn the ball over twice on their final four possessions as the Pioneers were able to run out the clock.

Brewer's 11 draw controls are tied for the fourth-most in a game in program history, and she also finished with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. With her five goals, Brewer moved within one point of becoming the eighth player in program history to reach 100 career points (81 goals, 18 assists).

Joey Baillie led Catawba with four ground balls and three draw controls, while Madison Shaffer had six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Catawba was 23-for-27 on clears and had 16 turnovers as a team in the match.

Tusculum will visit Newberry on Saturday, March 2. The Wolves (2-3, 1-0 SAC) lost 17-7 to Mount Olive on Wednesday after opening their SAC schedule last Saturday with a 14-13 win over UVA Wise.
