Tusculum honored as IWLCA National Academic Squad for 2023

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. --- The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has announced its Division II Academic Honor Roll and Academic Honor Squads for the 2023 season.

Tusculum University is among 56 Division II programs recognized as an Academic Honor Squad for maintaining a 3.2 or higher team grade-point average for the academic year.

In addition, five members of the team earned Academic Honor Roll status for having a minimum cumulative 3.50 grade-point average while being a junior, senior or graduate student. Seniors Tia Daniel and Kylie Marek were joined on the Academic Honor Roll by juniors Morgan Correia, Haylee Cureton and Abby Lockwood.

Daniel, who graduated magna cum laude from Tusculum in May with a 3.94 grade point average as a criminal justice major, was the South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's lacrosse and was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. The Langley, British Columbia native was a two-time All-SAC honoree who set the program single-season record with 86 points (58 goals, 28 assists). She finished her career ranked second in program history in goals (149), assists (51) and points (200).

Marek graduated with a bachelor's degree in elementary education with a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average, and is pursuing a masters degree in sport management. The Plantation, Florida native did not play in the 2023 season due to injury, and has 43 goals and 11 assists for 54 points in 24 career games.

Correia is majoring in physical education and has a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. She has started all 32 games on defense over the past two seasons, and the New Bedford, Massachusetts native has 53 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers in 37 career games.

Cureton is a sport management major and has a 3.69 cumulative grade-point average. The Moore, South Carolina native transferred in from Southern Wesleyan and started all 16 games on defense, collecting 21 ground balls with three caused turnovers.

Lockwood is majoring in sport science with a focus on pre-physical therapy and occupational therapy, and has a 3.70 cumulative grade-point average. The Wentzville, Missouri native is a transfer from Missouri Western State, and collected 18 goals and 10 assists while starting all 16 matches on attack.

Across Division II, a total of 401 student-athletes from 59 institutions were Academic Honor Roll recipients.
