Daniel, Brewer earn All-SAC honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University senior attacker Tia Daniel and junior midfielder Lucy Brewer were each named All-South Atlantic Conference in women's lacrosse for the 2023 season, the SAC office announced Wednesday.

Daniel was a second-team selection while Brewer was a third-team honoree for the Pioneers, who finished 7-9 overall and tied for seventh in the SAC with a 4-6 record. Tusculum's seven wins were its most in a season since 2016, while the four conference victories were the most for the Pioneers since 2018.

Daniel set the school single-season record for points with 86, with 58 goals and 28 assists in 16 games. The Langley, British Columbia native scored at least one goal in every game, including seven-goal performances against Anderson on March 15, Lees-McRae on April 6 and UVA Wise on April 12. Daniel also had four games with nine points, coming against Coker on March 12, Catawba on April 1 and the matches against Lees-McRae and UVA Wise.

Daniel, a third-team All-SAC honoree last season, led the SAC with 5.38 points per game, ranking her ninth in Division II. Her 86 points were tied for the conference lead in the regular season while her 3.62 goals per game were second-best in the SAC. Daniel also ranked fourth in the confernece with a team-high 79 draw controls.

For her career, Daniel ranked second in program history in goals (149), assists (51) and points (200), along with free-position goals (37) and shots on goal (248). Daniel is third in career draw controls with 159 and tied for third in career game-winning goals with five. She recorded at least one point in 44 of her 45 career games, including 40 consecutive to end her career.

Brewer was second on the Pioneers in goals (37), points (43) and draw controls (69) while leading the team with 36 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers. Brewer scored five goals in a game three times this season, doing so on February 11 vs. Charleston, March 12 at Coker and April 1 vs. Catawba. Brewer ended the season with a goal in 15 straight games, and had at least five draw controls in eight games. Brewer's 1.88 caused turnovers per game rank fifth in the SAC and 25th in Division II.

The Williamstown, Australia native is ninth in program history in goals (67) and in points (82) in two seasons with the Pioneers. Brewer is tied for sixth all-time with 45 caused turnovers and is fourth with 122 draw controls.

Leah Knowles of Wingate was named SAC Offensive Player of the Year, with Defensive Player of the Year honors to Bailey Stumpf of Limestone. Alicia Cannon of Anderson earned Freshman of the Year accolades, with Abby Wiley of Wingate collecting the Coach of the Year award.
