NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. --- Tusculum University has been recognized by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association as an Academic Honor Squad for the 2021-22 academic year, the IWLCA announced Wednesday. Seven members of the team were also named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the 2022 season.
To qualify for the Academic Honor Squad, the Pioneers required a team grade-point average of 3.2 or higher for the academic year. Tusculum's team GPA of 3.60 was the second-highest among the Tusculum athletic department's 24 intercollegiate sports.
Earning IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Roll status from Tusculum were graduate student Megann McKinney, seniors Taylor Floyd, Harley Smith, Jessica Spiegel, Tia Tuininga and Emily Youngblood, and junior Kylie Marek. They were among 517 student-athletes from 68 Division II institutions who were juniors, seniors or graduate students and had cumulative GPAs of 3.50 or greater.
The team had 20 players earn Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll status for having either a spring semester or cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better, and placed 16 student-athletes on the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for having at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA.
Tusculum, led by first-year head coach Jenna Agostino, was one of eight SAC schools to earn IWLCA Division II Academic Honor Squad status for the 2022 season.
