ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University junior Tia Tuininga has been selected All-South Atlantic Conference in women's lacrosse for the 2022 season, the conference office announced Thursday.
Tuininga was a third-team selection at attack in voting by the league's 11 head coaches. She is the first Tusculum player to receive All-SAC honors since 2019, when Juliette Cusano was a second-team pick and Rachel Holmes earned honorable mention accolades.
Tuininga led the Pioneers with 55 goals and 19 assists for 74 points in 16 games, ranking her eighth in the SAC in points and tied for seventh in goals. The Langley, British Columbia native scored at least one goal in all 16 games, including seven goals in wins over Converse on March 15 and Coker on April 9. Tuininga had 10 points in the victory over Converse on seven goals and three assists, tied for the second-most in a game in program history.
The 55 goals from Tuininga are second in a single-season in program history behind the 61 goals scored by Cusano during the 2019 season, while her 74 points are second behind the 78 points from Madison Malone in 2017. Tuininga also ranked in the top 10 in a season in school history in assists (19, seventh), shot attempts (110, second), caused turnovers (17th, tied for 10th), free-position goals (15, second) and draw controls (52, ninth).
Through three seasons, Tuininga ranks in the top 10 in program history in goals (91, fifth), assists (23, eighth), points (114, sixth), shot attempts (195, fifth), free position goals (22, tied for second) and draw controls (80, seventh). She has scored at least one goal in 28 of her 29 career games, including 24 in a row.
Leah Knowles of Wingate was named SAC Offensive Player of the Year, with Defensive Player of the Year honors to Catawba goalkeeper Aryn Dorr. Cassell Richardson of Newberry was selected conference Freshman of the Year, and Abby Wiley of Wingate was named Coach of the Year.
The Pioneers finished the 2022 season with a 4-12 overall record and 1-9 in SAC matches.
