Hildenbrand leads Pioneers to fifth place finish at AU/EU Fall Kickoff

GREENWOOD, S.C. --- Tusculum University freshman Maylei Hildenbrand carded a top-10 finish in her collegiate debut to help the Pioneers to a fifth-place finish at the Meredith Insurance AU/EU Fall Kickoff.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament was co-hosted by Anderson University and Erskine University and held at The Links at Stoney Point.

Tusculum carded a final round 319 to finish with a three-round total of 945 to finish fifth in the 17-team field.

Hildenbrand, who played her prep golf locally at South Greene High School, posted a final round 73 to finish with 223, which is tied for the fourth-lowest 54-hole total in program history. Her round included three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys.

Wingate won the team title thanks to an eight-under par 280 by the Bulldogs in the final round to shoot 861 and finished six shots clear of Anderson (867). Lander posted 900 and finished third, followed by Carson-Newman (930) and Tusculum (945) to round out the top-five.

Limestone was sixth with 956, followed by Erskine (959), Lenoir-Rhyne (961), Belmont Abbey (962), Converse (969), UNC Pembroke (974), Coker (976), Catawba (977), North Greenville (990), King (991), Newberry (1003) and Young Harris (1017).

Wingate's Jess Brown led the rally for the Bulldogs with her final round 68 to capture medalist honors with a nine-under par total 68-71-68=207. Brown won by five shots over teammate Amely Bochaton who shot a four-under 212 including a Tuesday-best 67 (-5).

Tusculum junior Reagan Padilla finished the week with 75-76-80=231 to tie for 20th place and earn her 15th career top-20 performance.

TU's Annabelle Mozingo tied for 42nd place with 81-79-83=243, Lindsay Self shot 88-77-87=252 to finish 66th and Delfin Filiz fired 88-85-83=256 to tie for 74th.

The Pioneers return to action in two weeks as they make the short trip to Bristol for the King Invitational (Sep. 23-24). Padilla is the defending individual champion at the King Invitational as she posted a two-shot victory.
