TRAVELERS REST, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Reagan Padilla is in sole possession of sixth place following Monday's opening round of the Cherokee Valley Spring Bash. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being hosted by North Greenville University and held at the par-72, 5,894-yard Cherokee Valley Country Club.
The Pioneers are in fifth place in the team competition after Monday's 336 score.
Padilla posted an 80 and is seven shots out of first place which is held by co-leaders Abigail Cheney and Taylor Young, both of Shorter University, who each carded a one-over par 73.
Shorter has an 18-shot lead after its 309 score on Monday. Host North Greenville is second with 327, followed by Belmont Abbey (328), Trevecca Nazarene (332) and Tusculum to round out the top-five. Belmont Abbey B is sixth with 349, Emmanuel and Young Harris are tied for seventh at 354, followed by North Greenville B (370) and Savannah State (380).
Anna Ahonen is tied for 17th place with 83, Lindsay Self is 26th with her 86, Emilie Bergh-Jacobsen is 28th with 87 and Lindy Carter is 47th with her 100. Adrienne O'Brien, who is playing as an individual competitor, is tied for 28th place with her 87.
The final round will be conducted on Tuesday. This will be the final tune-up for the Pioneers as they continue to prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Championship which starts this Sunday.
