Padilla's bid for title comes up short at Lady Bearcat Invite

GREENWOOD, S.C. --- Tusculum's Reagan Padilla made a strong final day charge but came up short as the TU sophomore finished fifth at the 2024 Lady Bearcat Invitational.

Padilla ended the tournament in a five-way tie for fifth place honors as she carded a four-over par 76 to finish with a 54-hole total 223 (+7), just three shots behind tournament medalist Supuschaya Srichantamit of Lee University. Srichantamit finished 74-71-75=220, one stroke better than runner-up Claudia Hasting of Limestone (72-78-71=221).

Padilla opened with four straight pars before closing out her opening nine with bogeys on two holes as she made the turn at +2 (38). She started her second nine with a par, birdie beginning to get to one-over on the day and +5 for the tournament. But a double-bogey on her 12th hole send her back to +3 on the round. She scored pars on the next three holes and got a birdie on her 16th hole to get back to +2. But she would score a bogey on each of the final two holes to complete her final round with a 76.

Tusculum finished the team competition in 16th place as the Pioneers finished with a 54-hole total 962 including Tuesday's 321. The 22-team tournament was held at the par-72, 5,976-yard Greenwood Country Club.

Montevallo finished fourth with 911, while host Lander came in fifth with 915. North Georgia finished sixth with 921, followed by Carson-Newman (924), Lincoln Memorial (928), USC Beaufort (933), Lenoir-Rhyne (933), Newberry (934), West Georgia (945), Belmont Abbey (952), Columbus State (953), King (957), Tusculum (962), Catawba (966), Trevecca Nazarene (968), Erskine (981), Converse (986), Emmanuel (999) and Young Harris (1032).

Tusculum's Anna Ahonen tied for 40th place with 81-76-78 and Lindsay Self placed 87th with her 81-82-86=249. Emilie Bergh-Jacobsen shot 87-87-85=259 to finish 103rd, while Lindy Carter finished with 92-90-82=264 (T109). Carter's final round 82 was a season-low for the TU rookie.
