ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. --- Tusculum University freshman Anna Ahonen fired an opening round 75 and is tied for fourth place at the St. Simons Intercollegiate. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the 5,801-yard, par-72 King and Prince Golf Course and hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.
The Pioneers posted a team score of 316 and are tied for seventh place and is 17 shots behind the team leader.
Host LMU leads the event by nine shots following its opening round 299. Shorter is second with 308, while Catawba and Erskine are tied for third with 312. Newberry is fifth with 313, followed by Coker (314), Tusculum, Mt. Olive (316), Christian Brothers (318), Union, Tenn. (319), Spring Hill (320), Belmont Abbey (324), Coastal Georgia (325), North Greenville (325), Emmanuel (327), Paine (335) and UNC Pembroke (339).
Ahonen posted an even par 36 on her outward nine holes and got to minus-one with her birdie on No. 10. But bogeys on No. 13 and No. 16, coupled with a double-bogey on No. 17 had her with a respectable 75 (+3). TU's Reagan Padilla and Emilie Bergh-Jacobsen both carded rounds of 78 and are tied for 20th place. Adrienne O'Brien shot 85 and is 76th while Lindsay Self rounded out the score with 95.
Erskine's Amanda Guzman has the day one individual lead with her one-under par 71.
The final round will be held on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
