Three Pioneers named to WGCA All-America Scholars

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. --- Three Tusculum University women's golf student-athletes have been named All-American Scholars as selected by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).

Earning WGCA All-America Scholar recognition are Adrienne O'Brien, Reagan Padilla and Lindsay Self.

Over 1,400 women's collegiate golfers received this prestigious honor. Criteria for selection to be selected a WGCA All-America Scholar includes: 3.50 cumulative grade point average and compete in 50 percent of the team's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the 2022-23 academic year.

O'Brien, a rising senior from Salem, South Carolina, is majoring in pre-dentistry and has a 3.61 GPA. She is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and is a 2023 recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

She played in all 10 tournaments where she logged an 85.60 stroke average as she posted a pair of top-30 performances including a season-best ninth place showing at the Agnes McAmis Memorial.

Padilla, a rising sophomore from Gallatin, Tennessee, accounted for a team-high 3.89 GPA while majoring in sports science. She earned a spot on the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and President's List.

She finished her rookie season with a 78.32 scoring average which is the fourth-lowest by a TU freshman and the 18th lowest overall. She played in every round for all 10 tournaments while posting four top-20 finishes including three times in the top-10 and once in the top-five.

She finished third at the CBU Buccaneer Classic where she posted a three-round total of 78-74-77=229 which is tied for the 11th lowest 54-hole score in school history. She matched that 229 total at the SAC Championship to finish 16th including a season-low round of 18 on the final day of the tournament. She finished sixth at the McAmis Memorial and seventh at the King Invitational.

Self, a rising sophomore from Lake City, Florida, posted a 3.66 GPA while majoring in education. She is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

She recorded an 89.24 stroke average while playing in all 10 tournaments in her rookie campaign. She placed 30th at the McAmis Memorial, 35th at the CBU Buccaneer Classic and 43rd at the King Invitational.

Tusculum, under the direction of first-year head coach Hunter Chandley, finished in the top-10 in five tournaments this past year including runner-up honors at the McAmis Memorial and third at the Buccaneer Classic. The Pioneers finished sixth at the SAC Championship, its best league showing in six years.

Academically, the Pioneers also shined where they finished the year with a 3.558 cumulative team GPA which was fourth highest of Tusculum's sports programs.
