Pioneers shoot 305 to lead Agnes McAmis Memorial

CHUCKEY, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's golf team has the first round lead of the 24th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial, which is being held at the Graysburg Hills Golf Course and hosted by the Pioneers.

Tusculum shot a team score of 305 on Monday and lead by two shots over Milligan A (307) and are 12 strokes clear of third place Midway (317).

Alayna Perryman of Milligan A and Milligan B's Izzy Griggs share the 18-hole lead with their one-over par 73. Tusculum's Sofie Lorentzen is tied for third place honors with her season-low 74 along with Sasha Gardner of King.

Newberry is fourth in the team competition with 319, followed by Milligan B (324), King (346), Spartanburg Methodist (355), Emory & Henry (361) and Roane State (542).

Tusculum's Nilubol Panno, the defending McAmis medalist, shot 76 and is tied for fifth place. Olivia Cunningham carded a 77 and is tied for seventh, while the TU duo of Hannah Brown and Braelyn Pippin each shot 78 and are tied for 11th place.

Playing as an individual competitor, TU's Adrienne O'Brien fired a 77 and is tied for seventh place. Senior Jacque Butler posted an 82 and is tied for 25th place. TU's Carolin Wassman is 38th with her 95.

One of the individual highlights of opening day was Emory & Henry's Emily Smelcer, who recorded a hole-in-one on the fifth hole of the Knobs 9. Smelcer's teammate McKenna Quillen, recorded a hole-in-one in the final round of last year's McAmis Memorial on No. 8 of Knobs.

Tuesday's final round will begin at 10:45 a.m. The Pioneers are the defending champions of the McAmis Memorial and have won their home spring event on seven occasions.
