JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- Tuesday's final round action included a hole-in-one and culminated with a rally as the Tusculum University women's golf team repeated as champions of the Mars Hill University Invitational.
The Pioneers carded a final round score of 304 to finish with 629 to capture back-to-back MHU Invitational titles. TU won last year's MHU event in Fletcher, North Carolina, but won closer to home this week at the Johnson City Country Club. The Pioneers overcame an eight-shot deficit to overtake Milligan College who carded rounds of 317-316=633.
Tusculum had three players in the top-four led by senior Jennifer Keim who finished runner-up with 77-72=149, just one shot behind tournament medalist Michaela Lindahl of Milligan (74-74=148).
TU newcomers Yen Xuan Ong and Taylor Gransen both tied for fourth place honors at 155.
Tusculum junior Mackenzie Butler shaved 21 shots off of Monday's 98 to post a 77 which included her second career hole-in-one and first as a collegiate golfer. Butler aced the par-three 17th hole to become the first TU golfer to record a hole-in-one in competition since Kelly Horrell hit a hole-in-one in the final round of the 2014 Flagler Fall Slam in St. Augustine's, Florida.
TU's Meredith Barton also improved from Monday's opening round as she cut nine shots off her to score to finish 93-84=177.
The tournament victory is the program's 26th overall and the third in the last two seasons.
The Pioneers return to action next Monday and Tuesday as the Black & Orange travels to Bristol, Tennessee for the King University Invitational.
