ELGIN, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team fired a second consecutive score of 315 to finish with team total of 630 to finish 11th at the Newberry College Regional Preview, which was played this week at The Members Club at Woodcreek.
The 2017 NCAA Division II South Region Championship will be held at The Members Club this coming May.
Florida Tech won the team title by 10 shots as the Panthers carded a two-day score of 585 to defeat runner-up West Florida (595). Rollins finished third with 597, followed by Nova Southeastern (599), host Newberry (619), Florida Southern (622), Lee (623), Limestone (623), Wingate (627), Carson-Newman (627), Tusculum and Shorter (647).
Leading the way for the Pioneers was junior Ciara Rattana who tied for 25th place with a two-round score of 79-77=156. The TC duo of Taylor White (79-79=158) and Taylor Lambertsen (78-80=158) tied for 36th place, while Katie Tomassoni (80-79=159) and Cydney Murrell (79-80=159) tied for 46th.
Three players tied with a one-under par total of 143 and first place honors including Brittany LaPadula (Florida Tech), Guro Rambjoer (Florida Tech) and Paloma Vaccaro (West Florida). LaPadula captured medalist honors via a tiebreaker based on the lowest score starting on the 18th hole.
This wraps up a very successful first half of the season for the Pioneers as they captured three team titles in their fall events.
Tusculum returns to action Feb. 4-5, 2017 when the Pioneers travel to the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in South Carolina.
