GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team shot a tournament record 595 to win the 11th annual Tusculum Fall Classic Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club. The Pioneers posted a Classic record 292 in the final round to win by five shots over first-day leader Lenoir-Rhyne University.
Tusculum wins this event for a second straight year and fourth time overall (2006, 2012, 2015, 2016).
The Pioneers placed four players in the top-eight, including three on the All-Tournament team led by sophomore Katie Tomassoni, who fired a 36-hole total of 144. Tomassoni tied with Abbey Hartsell of Lenoir-Rhyne at even par for the tournament. Tomassoni birdied the final hole, while Hartsell scored a bogey on No. 18 to bring about the first place tie. Hartsell claimed medalist honors via a playoff.
Milligan College finished third in the team competition with 613, followed by Lincoln Memorial University (615), Tusculum B (645), Spartanburg Methodist (647) and Milligan B (683).
The Tusculum duo of Ciara Rattana and Cydney Murrell finished in a tie for fourth place with 150 to round out the All-Tournament Team. Rattana carded a final round 73, while Murrell posted a career-best 71 (-1) which was tied for the lowest round of the day (LR's Ainee O'Connor also shot 71 on Tuesday).
Tusculum sophomore Taylor White tied for sixth place with 76-75=151, while senior Taylor Lambertsen rounded out the team scoring with 81-80=161 to tie for 29th place.
Leading the Tusculum B squad was Kelsey Haun as she shot 80-79=159 to tie for 22nd place.
Blythe Scrivner posted the shot of the day as she hit a hole-in-one on No. 16 with a seven iron from 147 yards out. For Scrivner, it was her first collegiate hole-in-one and fifth overall ace. She finished in sole possession of 25th place with 82-78=160.
Tusculum senior Lindsay Butler and rookie Maggienella Basile tied for 29th with 163. Sayre Hopper shot 91-91=182 for Tusculum B to finish 39th.
TC sophomore Trista Holder, playing as an individual competitor, shot 87-86=173 to tie for 35th place.
Tusculum's team score of 292 on Tuesday is also the second lowest 18-hole score in school history, just one off the record 291 carded at the 2012 Agnes McAmis Memorial. The 595 was two strokes off the TC record 593 posted at the 2012 McAmis Memorial.
The Pioneers have opened the season with back-to-back tournament wins, claiming championship honors at last week's Etowah Intercollegiate. This marks the first time in program history which TC has claimed back-to-back team titles.
