Pioneers Finish 10th at Flagler Fall Slam

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team fired back-to-back scores of 329 to earn 10th place at the competitive 2014 Flagler Fall Slam. Freshman Ciara Rattana was the Pioneers' low scorer after carding a second-round 78 to help finish in a tie for 24th place.

The two-day, 36-hole tournament was hosted by Flagler College and held at the par-72, 6,062-yard Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, Florida. The host Saints, ranked fifth in the latest GolfStat Rankings, scored a 601 and edged fourth-ranked Lynn University by five strokes to claim the team title.

Seminole State College, the No. 2 ranked team in the NJCAA, finished third with 614, followed by No. 22 Armstrong (616) and No. 10 Barry (624) to comprise the top-five. No. 38 Wingate claimed sixth-place with 633 followed by No. 24 Montevallo with 636 in seventh. Limestone (638), No. 26 Northeastern State (649) and Tusculum (658) rounded out the top-10.

Tampa claimed 11th place honors with 659 followed by North Georgia in 12th (666), Catawba in 13th (669), Anderson in 14th (702), and Eckerd in 15th (710).

Rattana carded an 80 in the first round to finish with a 36-hole total of 158 (80-78). Fellow freshman Blythe Scrivner carded 83-80=163 to tie for 37th, while senior Alec Cunningham fired rounds of 81-87=168 to finish in a tie for 51st.

Sophomore Taylor Lambertsen (89-84=173, T60th) and junior Calley Lawson (85-89=174, T64th) rounded out the team scoring for the Pioneers.
Junior Kelly Horrell carded rounds of 101-97=198 for an 81st place finish playing as an individual. Horrell provided the memorable moment of the tournament as she made a hole-in-one on the par 3, seventh hole.

Lynn's Jessica Bradley claimed medalist honors with 72-73=145, winning the tournament by one stroke over runner-up Patricia Schmidt of Armstrong (77-69=146).

Tusculum will be back in action this weekend (Nov. 1-2) when it hosts the inaugural Pioneer Classic at the Nolichucky View Golf Club. The two-day, 36-hole event begins on Saturday mornning.
