PINEHURST, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior Sara Howard shot a two-day score of 169 to finish tied for 18th place at the 2014 Pinehurst Challenge. The 36-hole tournament was held at 5,840-yard, par 72 National Golf Club and hosted by Wingate University.

The Pioneers finished 15th in the team competition with a score of 724. Armstrong Atlantic State University led wire-to-wire by firing 638, 27 shots ahead of tournament runner-up Lee University (665). USC Beaufort finished third with 666, while UNC Pembroke placed fourth with 669. Host Wingate placed fifth with 670, followed by Queens University of Charlotte (684), Coker College (694), Barton College (700), Limestone College (701), King University (703), Lincoln Memorial University (704), Converse College (709), Anderson University (715), Catawba College (717), Tusculum, Pfeiffer University (755), Mars Hill University (771) and Lenoir-Rhyne University (780).

Armstrong's Jenna Birch won medalist honors with 76-78=154, two strokes ahead of AASU teammate and runner-up Kristen Sammarco (79-77=156).

Howard's 18th place showing was her fifth top-20 finish this season and 20th of her collegiate career.

TC freshman Taylor Lambertsen shot 90-87=177 to tie for 47th place, while sophomore Kelly Horrell fired 91-100=191 to tie for 68th. Sophomore Calley Lawson tied for 72nd place with 99-93=192, while freshman Lindsay Butler shot 94-100=194 to tie for 76th.

The Pioneers return to action this Saturday when they compete with the TC men in the Tusculum/Lincoln Memorial Match Play event at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
