Pioneers in 15th place after day one of Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior Sara Howard posted an opening round 85 and is tied for 27th place following day one action at the Pinehurst Challenge. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at The National Golf Club and hosted by Wingate University.

The Pioneers carded a team score of 360 and are in 15th place. Armstrong Atlantic State University posted the best team score of the day with 315 as the Pirates enjoy a 14 stroke lead over second place Lee University (329). USC Beaufort is third with 332, followed by Wingate (334), UNC Pembroke (338), Coker College (342), Queens University of Charlotte (344), Limestone College (346), King University (346) and Lincoln Memorial University (349) to round out the top-10.

Catawba College and Barton College both shot 350 and are tied for 11th place. Anderson University is 13th with 355, followed by Converse (357), Tusculum, Lenoir-Rhyne University (373), Pfeiffer University (378) and Mars Hill University (387).

Armstrong's Jenna Birch and Grace Glaze of Queens share the first round lead are posting rounds of 76.

TC freshman Taylor Lambertsen is tied for 58th place with 90, while sophomore Kelly Horrell shot 91 and is tied for 64th place. Rookie Lindsay Butler is 71st with her 94, while sophomore Calley Lawson carded a 99 and is 80th.

The final round will be played on Monday at The National Golf Club.
