SALISBURY, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior Sara Howard fired a final round 73 to post a two-day score of 153 to tie for fourth place at the 2013 Patsy Rendleman Invitational. Howard paced the Pioneers who shaved 13 shots off Monday's score to card 322 and finish with 657, tying for 11th place in the 18-team tournament field.
UNC Pembroke rallied from a seven-shot deficit to win the team title with 317-311=628, three shots ahead of runner-up Newberry. Queens University of Charlotte finished third with 635, followed by Montevallo (638), West Georgia (639), Wingate (641), Anderson (651), Erskine (651), Lincoln Memorial (652) and Converse to round out the top-10. Tusculum and Catawba tied for 11th with 657, followed by North Greenville (661), King (664), Pfeiffer (681), Belmont Abbey (691) and Lenoir-Rhyne (722).
Newberry's Marianna Monaco led wire-to-wire to capture medalist honors with 72-77=149, two shots ahead of West Georgia's Jessica Danford (79-72=151) and Leslie Long of Catawba (74-77=151) and four shots better than Howard, who records her third straight top-20 performance and second top-10 showing this fall.
TC rookie Taylor Lambertsen finished 27th with 80-81=161, while junior Alec Cunningham knocked off nine shots from her first round score with Tuesday's 82 to finish 62nd with 173. The sophomore tandem of Kelly Horrell (88-86=174) and Calley Lawson (87-94=181) finished 65th and 77th, respectively.
The Pioneers return to action Oct. 28-29 as they travel to Florida for the Flagler Fall Slam.
