
Tusculum College slipped one spot to second place heading into
Tuesday's final round of the 2013 Food Lion South Atlantic
Conference Women's Golf Championship, being played on the
Sevierville Golf Club's Highlands Course.
The Pioneers, who led Lincoln Memorial by three shots and Newberry
by seven strokes after day one on Sunday, slipped to a 328 on
Monday and fell six shots behind defending champion Newberry, which
carded a tourney-low 312 to stand at 637 after 36 holes. The
Pioneers (643) and Lincoln Memorial (646) are within striking
distance of the Wolves in second and third, followed by
Carson-Newman (662) and Wingate (672) in the top five.
Senior Jillian Corum, whose opening-round 74 gave her a one-stroke
lead heading into Monday's action, finished with an 82 and stands
at 156 after two rounds, tied for third and three shots behind
co-leaders Whitney Ball of Lincoln Memorial and Eline Askeland of
Newberry.
Sophomore Emee Herbert, the SAC Player of the Year, finished at 80
in round two and is in sole possession of seventh place at 159.
Junior Sara Howard is tied for eighth at 161 after shooting 83,
freshman Calley Lawson turned in an 85 on Monday and is tied for
19th at 169, and sophomore Alec Cunningham fired an 83 and is in
21st place at 170.
Catawba is sixth in the team standings at 696, followed by Anderson
(713), Mars Hill (759) and Brevard (832). Tied with Corum for third
place in the individual standings at 156 are Desta Coaker of
Lincoln Memorial and Barbara Castro of Newberry.
Tuesday's third and final round begins at 8:30 a.m. on the
Highlands Course. Tusculum is seeking its first SAC championship
since winning back-to-back titles in 2000 and 2001.
