ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. --- Tusculum's Emee Herbert shot a two-under par 70 as she and the Pioneers both finished third at the 2012 Flagler Fall Slam, held this week at the Marsh Creek Golf Club.
Herbert posted a two-day score of 78-70=148, while Tusculum followed Monday's 311 with a final round 312 to post 623 and finish third in the 18-team field.
Herbert was two over on her opening nine holes, but followed with a four-under 32 on her inward nine as she established a collegiate best and tie for the third lowest round in program history.
Fourth-ranked Barry won the team title as the Buccaneers finished with 296-307=603, 19 shots ahead of host Flagler as the Saints finished with 622, edging Tusculum by a single-shot for runner-up honors. Seminole State finished a shot behind TC with 624, followed by Armstrong (627), Mount Olive (631), No. 11 Saint Leo (631), No. 25 Columbus State (636), Lander (636), Queens University of Charlotte (638), Carson-Newman (641), Catawba (656), North Georgia (663), Flagler B (674), Anderson (676), West Georgia (688), Thomas, Ga. (692) and Eckerd (744).
Armstrong's Jenna Birch captured medalist honors as she matched Herbert with the low-round of the tournament with her 70 to finish at 145, a stroke better than Nancy Vergara (146) and two ahead of Herbert.
Tusculum's Sara Howard posted back-to-back rounds of 77 to finish with 154 to tie for 13th place. Alec Cunningham posted 78-82=160 to tie for 30th place, while Jillian Corum finished 35th with 78-83=161. Freshman Calley Lawson knocked three shots off her first round score to shoot 86 to finish 76th with 175. Kelly Horrell, playing as an individual competitor, carded a two-day 102-94=196 to finish 90th.
The Pioneers wrap up a successful fall season as they finished third or better in four of their five events.
