Tusculum College Women's golf student-athlete Jillian Corum has
been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III
Women's At-Large Team for NCAA Division II, the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Corum advances to the Academic All-America® ballot, which will
be announced in early June. Women's at-large sports include
bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey,
lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo.
Corum competed in 24 rounds for the Pioneers this season and
averaged 77.58 strokes per round to rank second on the team and
second-best in program history. She had one tournament win and six
top-10 finishes in 11 events, and shot 229 at the NCAA Division II
South Regional to tie for the second-best 54-hole score in program
history.
The Knoxville native was named first-team All-South Atlantic
Conference and finished eighth at the SAC Championship to claim
All-Tournament honors for a second straight year. Corum is a
three-time team Most Valuable Player and has the best career stroke
average in school history at 80.38.
Academically, the junior has a 3.63 cumulative grade-point average
as a business administration major at Tusculum.
Members of the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team are
selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA), which includes all colleges and universities in the South
Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt
Conference.
This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America®
program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division
(Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and
doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include
NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III
participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA,
Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America®
program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and
III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling
the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 DII and DIII
Academic All-America® teams program.
