Box score

PACE, Fla. --- The Tusculum College women's golf finished sixth with a three-day score of 928 including a final round 304 at the 2012 NCAA Division II South Region Championship. The 54-hole, nine-team regional was held at the par 72, 6,154-yard Stonebrook Golf Club and hosted by the University of West Florida.

Florida Southern captured the regional title with 302-296-304=902, while Nova Southeastern finished second with 308-300-306=914, and Barry came in third with 305-300-317=922. All three teams will advance to the NCAA National Championship in Louisville, Ky.

Saint Leo finished fourth in the team competition with 924, followed by Lynn (926), Tusculum, Newberry (929), Rollins (929) and UNC Pembroke (939).

Also advancing to Louisville are the top three individual finishers (not affiliated with the top three teams), including Meghan Moore (UNC Pembroke), Goeun Lee (Saint Leo) and Jenna Birch (Armstrong). Birch and Kayla Sciupider (Rollins) tied for third place with 223, forcing a sudden death playoff. Birch chipped in from behind the green from 15 feet for a birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the final qualifying spot.

Nova Southeastern's Lilliana Camisa was the tournament medalist as she posted a 74-67-71=212, four strokes ahead of Moore, who finished second individually with 77-70-69=216 (Even).

Tusculum freshman Emee Herbert (Johns Creek, Ga.) finished in sole possession of ninth place with 74-78-72=224 (+8) as she finished one shot out of advancing to the playoff with Birch and Sciupider. Herbert's even par round of 72 on Tuesday included three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars, including eight on her inward nine. The 72 was also one of three scores on Tuesday that was par or better.

Herbert's 54-hole score of 224 is the lowest in school history and the third-best by a South Atlantic Conference golfer. She also finished the year with a 76.71 stroke average, which is also a new Tusculum single-season record.

Tusculum's final round 304 was the fifth lowest team score in school history.

Junior Jillian Corum fired a 73 for her final round to finish tied for 14th place with 80-76-73=229 to tie for the second lowest 54-hole score in school history, matching the 229 shot by Herbert at last month's SAC Championship.

Corum's round included three birdies, four bogeys and 11 pars for her one-over par 73. The Knoxville, Tenn. native caps an outstanding season with her 77.58 scoring average, which is the second lowest in school history.

Seniors Aly Pugh and Katie Doane, playing in their final collegiate event, both tied for 32nd place with 239.

Pugh (Harrisburg, Pa.) posted a final round 78, including consecutive birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 3 on her outward nine. Pugh ends her TC career with an 83.67 stroke average which is the fifth lowest in school history.

Doane (Sevierville, Tenn.) finished her Pioneer career with an 81 in her final collegiate round. Doane caps her career with an 85.23 stroke average, which is ninth in Tusculum history.

Sophomore Sara Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounded out the TC scoring with her 80-79-83=242 to tie for 40th place. Howard's two-year average sits at 81.70 which is the second lowest in school history (min. 2,000 strokes).

Tusculum enjoyed an outstanding season as the Pioneers finished in the top five in nine of its 11 events this season, including two tournament victories and the program's first-ever NCAA II Tournament appearance.
