Belmont Abbey wins third McAmis Memorial title in record fashion

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Belmont Abbey posted a tournament-record 600 as the Crusaders won the 14th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational for the third time in the last four years. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was hosted by Tusculum College at the par 72, 5,805-yard Link Hills Country Club.

Belmont Abbey shot 301 in Tuesday's final round to win the team title by 29 shots over runner-up Carson-Newman (629).

Carson-Newman's Jessica Tarbet captured medalist honors for the Lady Eagles as she fired 73-74=147 to win by two strokes over Belmont Abbey's Michele Low (73-76=149). Belmont Abbey's Melissa Siviter and Meagan Wallace tied for third place at 150, while Rita Kim finished in a three-way tie for fifth at 151, but earned the final spot on the All-Tournament Team on a scorecard playoff.

Methodist, last year's defending McAmis Memorial Champion, finished third this year with 632. Lincoln Memorial finished fourth with 640, while Wingate and Catawba tied for fifth with 643. Lindsey Wilson placed seventh with 645, while Pfeiffer, Anderson and West Georgia finished in a three-way tie for eighth place. Host Tusculum finished 11th with 654, followed by Limestone (686), Erskine (701), Spartanburg Methodist (706), Mars Hill (716) and North Georgia (723).

Wingate's Ashley Denton and Gretchen McLean of Methodist also finished fifth at 151, while West Georgia's Sarah Ross (73-81=154) and Lauren Giambastiani (76-79=155) finished eighth and ninth, respectively. Anderson's Hayley Parks rounded out the top 10 with 79-77=156.

Tusculum junior Aly Pugh tied for 14th place with 159, including a career-low 77 in Tuesday's final round. Sophomore Jillian Corum finished 18th with 81-79=160, while freshman Sara Howard tied for 41st place with 87-78=165. Junior Katie Doane (85-86=171) and senior Emily Palenkas (86-89=175) finished 60th and 63rd, respectively. Sophomore Haley Rye (81-85=166) finished 46th, while senior Adriana Vizcarrondo (86-82=168) placed 53rd, playing as individual competitors.

Tusculum returns to action on Monday as the Pioneers compete in the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship in Conover, N.C.
