GASTONIA, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team lost its opening round match against Belmont Abbey in day one action of the Conference Carolinas / Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship, which is being held at Liberty Lanes.
The Pioneers were seeded fifth following qualifying round action as Tusculum finished its three Baker 5-Game contests with 2,656 total pins. Kentucky Wesleyan earned the top-seed while Lincoln Memorial is the second-seed, Emmanuel is No. 3, Belmont Abbey No. 4, Tusculum at No. 5, Walsh is 6th and Ursuline is 7th.
Tusculum opened Baker Best-of-7 Play by winning its opening game with Belmont Abbey 190-162. But the Crusaders responded with four straight wins to capture the match, 4-1.
The Pioneers moved to Saturday's 2:30 p.m. elimination game against the loser of the Lincoln Memorial vs Emmanuel contest. Tusculum will have to win twice on Saturday to advance to Sunday's Championship match.
