SMYRNA, Tenn. --- Tusculum University's Jordan Mundt punched her ticket for next month's USBC National Championship. Mundt bowled a six-game pinfall of 1,222 and finished fourth at Friday's Intercollegiate Singles Championship at the Smyrna, Tennessee sectional.
The USBC National Championship will be held in Wyoming, Michigan from May 5-8.
The top six bowlers from each sectional qualifier advances to the national championship. Also qualifying for nationals are Isabel Allen (McKendree), Mabel Cummins (Vanderbilt), Ana Olaya (North Carolina A&T), Lauren Tomaszewski (North Carolina A&T) and Rebekah Loker (Ottawa University – Kansas).
Mundt, a freshman from Arlington, Tennessee, bowled three 200-plus games, saving her best for last with a 236 in her sixth and final game. Her scoresheet today was 185, 202, 234, 173, 192 and 236.
Mundt has recorded four top-10 finishes during her rookie campaign. She finished runner-up at the Railsplitter Classic, fifth at the Stallings Invitational and sixth at the Columbia 300 Invitational.
Junior Erin Burkart finished in the top-50 with her 1,082 pinfall as she bowled a Friday-best 233 in her fourth game. Senior Tacey Ballen totaled 1035 which was 74th. Alexa Tieto totaled 981 pins for 111th place, followed by Samantha Englans (956 – 122nd) and Abbygale Hunt (907 – 134th).
The Pioneers will compete at the Intercollegiate Team Championships on Saturday at the Smyrna Bowling Center with five 4-game Baker blocks (20 games) beginning at 1:45 p.m. (CT).
