SMYRNA, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team recorded three wins on Saturday including two against nationally-ranked foes after day two action of the Music City Classic. The three-day, 19-team tournament is being hosted by Vanderbilt University and held at Smyrna Lanes.
The Pioneers remained in 15th place in the tournament standings with 8,948 total pins.
Tusculum opened the day with an 886-843 win over 14th-ranked Maryville (Mo.). Jordan Mundt led the Pioneers bowling a team-best 224, while Samantha England added 181 in the win over the Saints.
No. 22 Central Missouri defeated Tusculum 973-816 in the day's second game as Mundt was the top bowler for the Black & Orange with her 200.
TU bounced back with a 903-851 victory over Alabama State as Tacey Ballen bowled a 200 and Mundt scored a 190.
The Pioneers were competitive in the match against No. 5 Nebraska but the Cornhuskers came away with a 999-928 triumph. England bowled the best score of the day for Tusculum with her 226, while Ballen logged 213.
Tusculum wrapped up the day with its 958-905 win over No. 23 Wisconsin-Whitewater. Alexa Tieto led TU to the win with her 216, while Erin Burkhart added 193.
Mundt finished 31st individually in the talented tournament field with 967 total pins for a 193.4 average in her five games. England finished 46th with 930 (186.0) while Ballen was 50th with 903 (180.6). Tieto was 59th with 867 (173.4) and Burkart as 78th with 683 (170.5).
McKendree is first in the team competition with 10,386 total points, while Nebraska is second with 10,104. North Carolina A&T is third with 9,879, just ahead of fourth place Louisiana Tech at 9,876.
Tusculum will open bracket play on Sunday with a rematch against Alabama State.
