GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Two double-digit scoring runs in the first half by Georgia Southwestern State University boosted the Hurricanes to a 95-70 victory over Tusculum University in non-conference women's basketball Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Arena.

Tusculum took its only lead at 1-0 on a free throw by Jenna Kallenberg with 8:47 left in the first quarter, but the Pioneers would miss their first 10 shot attempts and turned the ball over four times while the Hurricanes went out to a 13-1 lead following a layup from Langley with 2:45 left in the period. A Silva three-pointer with 2:22 to go in the quarter and a three-point play from Chesterfield with 47 seconds to go would be the only field goals of the period for the Pioneers, who shot 2-for-14 but trailed just 15-10 after one quarter.

Three-pointers by Silva and Kallenberg and a jumper from Delana DeBusk left the Pioneers trailing 24-20 with 7:52 left in the first half, but a 24-2 run from the Hurricanes that featured a 16-0 spurt pushed Georgia Southwestern ahead 48-22 following a jumper by McCully with 1:14 remaining in the half. McCully scored 10 of the Hurricanes' 16 points during the run, which helped Georgia Southwestern to a 50-28 lead at intermission.

McCully led the Hurricanes with 13 points in the first half, while Simmons added 10 points as Georgia Southwestern shot 67.9 percent (19-for-28) from the field as a team and 4-for-8 from three-point range in the half. Silva and Ni'Kiah Chesterfield scored six points apiece for the Pioneers in the first half, but Tusculum shot 37 percent (10-for-27) and turned the ball over 13 times which resulted in 26 points for the Hurricanes.

Neither team shot well from the field in the third quarter, with the Hurricanes going 6-for-14 and the Pioneers 3-for-12. Silva hit a pair of three-pointers and scored eight of the Pioneers' 15 points in the period, but Georgia Southwestern was able to stretch out its lead to 72-43 heading to the final quarter.

The Hurricanes took their biggest lead of the day at 86-51 following a putback by Langley with 6:31 remaining, but a 10-point performance from the Pioneers' Wilson in the quarter helped put a dent in the final margin.
