Long honored as SAC Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University senior guard Mia Long has been honored as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball for the week ending Feb. 23, after leading the Pioneers to two conference wins and scoring her 1,000th career point last week.

Long averaged 19.5 points per game last week, leading Tusculum in scoring with 19 points in a 79-74 come-from-behind win over Carson-Newman on Wednesday before adding a game-high 20 points in a 75-66 victory over Coker on Saturday that clinched a top-four seed for the Pioneers in the upcoming SAC Championship tournament.

The Ann Arbor, Michigan native shot 7-for-12 from the field and had five assists and six steals in the win over Carson-Newman. Against Coker, Long had four assists and three steals to go along with her sixth 20-point game of the season, while becoming the 19th player in school history to reach 1,000 points on a free throw with 31.8 seconds left.

Long leads the Pioneers and ranks 10th in the SAC in scoring at 14.2 points per game and leads the conference in steals with 3.5 per game. Long leads all active Division II players in career steals per game (3.4) and ranks fourth in program history with 268 steals.

The Pioneers (20-6, 15-5 SAC) open the final week of the regular season by traveling to Lincoln Memorial to face the Railsplitters on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Tusculum beat LMU 73-59 in the first meeting of the season between the teams on Jan. 22 at Pioneer Arena.
