McMillion Selected as Preseason All-SAC; Pioneers Picked Ninth
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum's Kristen McMillion has been selected to the 2014-15 Preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball first-team in a vote by the league's head coaches. The Pioneers have also been picked to finish ninth according to the league's annual preseason poll, also released Tuesday by the conference office.

McMillion, a 6-0 junior forward, was an All-SAC honorable mention last season after leading the conference and the Southeast Region in rebounding. Her 11.9 rebounds per game also ranked seventh in all of Division II, and were second in program single-season history.

McMillion recorded double-figure rebounds in 19 games, including 13 of the final 14. She tallied back-to-back 20-rebound efforts, with the second tying for the second-best single-game rebounding total in program history with 23 boards (13 offensive, 10 defensive) versus Mars Hill.

The Fayetteville, North Carolina native averaged 8.0 points and 11.9 rebounds per game last season for the Pioneers. McMillion scored in double-figures in eight games, including a pair of career-high 19 point performances against Anderson and Coker.

McMillion tallied a team-high eight double-doubles including 14 points and 10 rebounds in the Pioneers' upset of No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne late in the season. She was the only player in the SAC to rank in the top 10 in both steals (2.0, 7th) and blocks (1.1, 6th) per game.

Joining McMillion on the All-SAC First Team is Lenoir-Rhyne's Jazmine Charles and Jenni Gust, Newberry's Haylee Lepaio, Catawba's Chloe Bully, and Anderson's Sierra Simpson.

Wingate was picked to repeat as conference champions after receiving 123 points in the preseason poll. Newberry received 114 points and was selected second. Lenoir-Rhyne (109), Carson-Newman (102) and Lincoln Memorial (91) rounded out the top five.

Anderson was selected seventh with 88 points and Catawba eighth with 75. Coker garnered 67 points for eighth and Tusculum received 54 points for the ninth place prediction. Mars Hill (42), Brevard (33), and Queens (26) rounded out the group of 12.

Head coach Katrina Williams returns eight letterwinners from last year's squad that finished with an 8-18 overall record. Tusculum won seven of its final 11 games to come one win shy of earning a spot in the 2014 SAC Tournament.

The Pioneers will open their season on the road against Lees-McRae at the SAC/Conference Carolina's Challenge in Bristol, Tennessee on Nov. 14. TC's home opener, and SAC opener, is Nov. 19 versus Carson-Newman.
