Former Tusculum All-American to serve as honorary coach at Saturday's game with Brevard

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Former Tusculum College women's basketball All-American Susan Starnes Brown will be serving as an honorary coach at this Saturday's game between Tusculum and Brevard College. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at Pioneer Arena on the Greeneville campus.

Brown left a legacy on the Tusculum basketball court that still exists today. The 1997 Tusculum graduate is the holder of 13 school and national records, including being the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,927 career points from 1993-97. The Greeneville, Tenn. native was a three-time All-American and upon graduation, her point-tally was the best-ever in NAIA history.

Her teams compiled an impressive 98-32 record (.754 winning percentage), won two Tennessee-Virginia Athletic Conference (TVAC) and NAIA District championships and advanced to three NAIA National Tournaments. In 1995-96, Brown led her squad to a 30-5 record, the best season ever in Tusculum history.

During her senior season, Brown averaged a school-record 25.9 points per game and was named the NAIA National Player of the Year. In that season, she established a school single-game record by scoring 47 points against Piedmont College. In 1996, she set a pair of NAIA season marks, scoring 793 points and hauled in 383 rebounds.

Following her 1997 graduation with a degree in Computer Information Systems, Brown remained at Tusculum and served as a graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball team during the 1997-98 campaign. She completed her Master's degree at Tusculum in Adult Education in 1999.

Tusculum has posted 14-5 record this season, including 8-3 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Pioneers have won seven of their last eight games and are in sole possession of second place in the SAC, one game out of the top spot.

Tusculum is the defending SAC regular season and tournament champions and is looking to make the program's fifth straight NCAA Division II Tournament appearance. TC has captured three of the last four SAC regular season crowns and has won back-to-back SAC Tournament titles.
