Pioneers seeded fourth in SAC Tournament, will host Catawba Wednesday

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's basketball team is the fourth seed in next week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will host fifth-seeded Catawba College in Wednesday's quarterfinal round, announced the league office Saturday. (Printable Bracket)

Tusculum (17-9, 10-6 SAC) swept the regular season series with the Catawba Indians (15-12, 8-8 SAC), while winning its final three games in conference play, including a buzzer-beating victory over second-seeded Newberry on Feb. 17.

No. 24 Lenoir-Rhyne University (20-6, 13-3 SAC) is the top seed in the tournament after claiming the SAC regular season championship for the second year in a row. The Bears will host eighth-seeded Brevard College (9-18, 3-13 SAC) on Wednesday as the Tornados clinched the final spot in the tournament with a win over Catawba on Saturday.

Newberry College (19-7, 12-4 SAC) is the second seed, and will face seventh-seeded Lincoln Memorial University (8-18, 6-10 SAC) on Wednesday. The matchup is a rematch of Saturday's regular-season finale, which Newberry won 82-74.

No. 20 Carson-Newman College is the third seed in next week's SAC Tournament, and will host sixth-seeded Wingate University on Wednesday in a rematch of Saturday's regular season finale, which Carson-Newman won 76-65.

Quarterfinal winners advance to the tournament semifinals, which will be held at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C. on Saturday, with games at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday's women's championship will be at 4 p.m.

Tickets for quarterfinal games are $6 for adults, $3 for children, students and college students with ID. Tickets for semifinal and championship rounds are $10 for adults and $5 for children, students and college students with ID.

The men's and women's winners of the tournament will earn automatic bids to the NCAA Division II playoffs.
