
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the South Atlantic Conference Championship meet Saturday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track.
Through the first day of the meet, the Pioneer men have yet to earn a point while the women are tied for 10th with one point.
The meet concludes Sunday with 11 women's and 12 men's events, starting at 9:30 a.m.
MEN'S RECAP
Junior Isaiah Olson advanced to the finals of both the 60 meters and 200 meters, taking fifth in prelims in the 60 with a career-best time of 6.74 seconds and taking third in the 200 at 22.00 seconds. Freshman Mica Ruffin was ninth in the 60 meters at 6.90 seconds.
In the 400 meters, grad student Dorian Craven placed ninth in prelims at 50.50 seconds, and senior Joshua Stephens was 10th in the long jump at 6.60 meters (21 feet, 8 inches).
The Pioneers' distance medley relay of sophomore Simon Ray, sophomore Kayvon Pickett, freshman Levi Carson and junior Jerry Ricker took 12th place at 11:34.35.
Tusculum will have Olson compete in the 60 and 200 finals on Sunday, along with four throwers in the shot put and the 4x400 relay.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Six different Pioneer runners advanced to Sunday's finals, led by junior Theresa Green-White who qualified in the 60 meters, 200 meters and 60 hurdles. Juniors Jahzara Hart and Shanice Cox also qualified in the 60 and 200, along with freshman Qitarah Castlin in the 200, freshman Kori Moore in the 60 hurdles and grad student Tashianna Gray in the 400.
Green-White was second in the 60 hurdles at 8.62 seconds, fifth in the 60 meters at 7.64 seconds and eighth in the 200 meters at 25.51 seconds. Hart placed second in both the 60 (7.55) and 200 (24.80), with Cox taking third in the 200 (24.98) and fourth in the 60 (7.70). Castlin was seventh in the 200 at 25.50 seconds, Moore placed third in the 60 hurdles at 8.64 seconds and Gray was eighth in the 400 at 58.69 seconds.
Tusculum's distance medley relay of grad student Megan Humiston, Moore, grad student Alayna Suitte and junior Jesica Mbhamali placed eighth with a time of 13:38.01.
Senior Amber Hogan was ninth in the weight throw at 13.06 meters (42 feet, 10 1/4 inches) and sophomore Kieley Smith took 14th in the pentathlon with a score of 2,453 points.
Tusculum will be entered in seven events on Sunday, with Mbhamali running in the 3,000 and Hogan competing in the shot put. The Pioneers will also run in the 4x400 relay on Sunday.
