NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Tusculum University freshman thrower Caley Sosnowski has been honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the 2024 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, the USTFCCCA announced Monday.
Sosnowski was the runner-up in the women's javelin at the recent NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Emporia, Kansas. Sosnowski had a career-best throw of 51.60 meters (169 feet, 3 inches) during preliminaries to become the first Pioneer athlete to medal at the national championship and the fourth All-American in program history.
The Oxford, Florida native won the South Atlantic Conference championship in the javelin with a meet-record throw of 49.05 meters (160 feet, 11 inches). She had six meet wins this season in eight competitions, and set the program record in the event on four different occasions.
Sosnowski is the third Pioneer and first field competitor to earn Southeast Region Athlete of the Year honors from the USTFCCCA, joining Widchard Guervil (2018 men's outdoor track, 2022 men's indoor track) and Nicole McMillen (2020 women's indoor track).
