Pioneers collect three wins on second day of Montreat Open

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday on the second and final day of the Montreat Open, hosted at Pulliam Stadium.

The Tusculum women had three first-place finishes on Saturday, with sophomore Theresa Green-White winning the 100 hurdles, freshman Caley Sosnowski taking first in the javelin and the 4x100 relay earning the victory.

Tusculum will travel to Salisbury, North Carolina on Saturday, March 30 to compete in the Blue Bear Invitational, hosted by Livingstone College.

MEN'S RECAP
Sophomore Isaiah Olson took third in the 100 meters at 10.67 seconds and was seventh in the 200 meters at 22.00 seconds, with senior Jamal Cash taking third in the 400 hurdles at 56.36 seconds and seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.56 seconds. Senior Marquel Pittman finished fourth in the 100 meters at 10.70 seconds, and grad student Zack Nelson placed ninth in the 200 meters at 22.13 seconds. Senior Dorian Craven was sixth in the 400 meters, running 49.05 seconds.

Junior Joshua Stephens was second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.00 meters (45 feet, 11 1/4 inches), and freshman Hunter Burkey was eighth in the high jump at 1.75 meters (5 feet, 8 3/4 inches) and ninth in the 110 hurdles at 16.65 seconds. Burkey was 11th in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.37.

The Tusculum 4x100 relay of junior Stephen Brewer, Pittman, Nelson and Olson finished third at 41.32 seconds.

WOMEN'S RECAP
The Pioneers competed in seven events on Saturday, but earned victories in three of them. Green-White ran 14.17 in the 100 hurdles for the second-best time of her career, while Sosnowski threw 42.73 meters (140 feet, 2 inches) in the javelin for the third-best distance in program history in the event.

Tusculum's 4x100 relay of sophomore Kiera Taylor, freshman Alonda Shelton, Green-White and junior Jada Martin ran 47.23 seconds to claim first place with the fourth-best time in school history in the event.

Green-White was fifth in the 400 hurdles at 1:14.07, while Taylor was fifth in the 100 meters (12.46 seconds) and Shelton took sixth (12.48 seconds).

LEE INVITATIONAL
Freshman Kieley Smith competed in the heptathlon at the Lee Invitational on Friday and Saturday, taking eighth place overall with 3,431 points in a field of 16 competitors.

Smith's best event was the 100 meter hurdles, where she accumulated 707 points with a time of 16.06 seconds. Smith was sixth in the long jump at 4.82 meters and sixth in the javelin at 21.35 meters.
