Pioneers begin competition at Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed Friday on the opening day of the Vanderbilt Invitational, held at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.

The Pioneers will resume competition on Saturday at 11 a.m. (Eastern) with the men's shot put, with the final event of the two-day meet the men's 4x400 relay which is scheduled for 7:50 p.m. (Eastern).

MEN'S RECAP
Senior Jordan Taylor was the Pioneers' top finisher in the 200 meters with a time of 22.09 seconds, with senior Marquel Pittman in 25th place at 22.40 seconds and junior Stephen Brewer at 22.60 seconds for 32nd place.

Grad student Antonio Aparicio finished 13th in the 1000 meters with the fifth-best time in program history at 2:36.00. Junior Xay Bogus ran 2:54.49 for 17th place.

In the long jump, freshman Lansford Cunningham placed eighth at 6.81 meters (22 feet, 4 1/4 inches) for the fourth-best mark in program history. Senior Jamal Cash was 17th overall at 6.45 meters (21 feet, 2 inches) and junior Joshua Stephens was 22nd at 6.27 meters (20 feet, 7 inches).

WOMEN'S RECAP
Just three Pioneers competed on the first day of the meet, with freshman A'jaylah Yates recording the third-fastest time in school history in the 200 meters at 25.81 seconds for a 31st-place finish. Freshman Alonda Shelton was 43rd in the 200 at 26.28 seconds.

Junior Amber Hogan competed in the weight throw on Friday and took 24th place overall at 12.68 meters (41 feet, 7 1/4 inches) which is the fourth-best mark of her career and sixth-best in school history.
