Pioneers receive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Tusculum University had three male student-athletes honored with U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic recognition for the 2022-23 season.

Senior Zackary Nelson, sophomore Stephen Brewer and freshman Isaiah Olson were all recognized by the USTFCCCA for their academic and athletic achivements.

In addition, the Tusculum women's track & field team received All-Academic Team status for maintaining a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. The Pioneers had a team GPA of 3.26 for head coach Robert Williams to earn All-Academic Team honors for the third consecutive season.

Nelson, who had a 3.57 GPA while majoring in business administration, qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championship in the 400 meters, where he earned All-America honors. The St. Johns, Florida native was the Tusculum Male Athlete of the Year and was a five-time medalist at the South Atlantic Conference Championship.

Brewer has a 3.26 GPA as a computer science major, and has been All-Southeast Region in relays during each of his first two seasons. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina native is part of the school-record setting relays in both the indoor and outdoor 4x400 meters, and was part of the 4x400 relay that posted an NCAA qualifying time of 3:15.58 (converted) at this year's SAC Indoor Championship.

Olson had an NCAA qualifying time of 10.49 seconds in the 100 meters at the SAC Outdoor Championship. The Greeneville, Tennessee product was eighth in the 100 meters and third in the 4x100 relay at the SAC Championship meet. He is majoring in business administration and has a 3.79 cumulative GPA.

All-Academic Athlete honors are given to student-athletes who have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and achieved an NCAA qualifying time during the indoor or outdoor seasons, either as an individual or as part of a relay.
