Nelson, Adderley named to CSC Academic All-District Team

AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum University sprinters Zackary Nelson and Aliyah Adderley have been named to the 2022-23 NCAA Division II Cross Country and Track & Field Academic All-District® 3 Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® cross country and track & field team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. Both advance to the Academic All-America® ballot with the winners being announced in June.

District 3 is comprised of colleges and universities representing the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, must be at least a sophomore and competed in 50 percent of their team's events.

Nelson, a senior from St. Johns, Florida, graduated with cum laude honors this spring with a 3.55 GPA while majoring in business management. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. He is also a 2022 USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete.

Nelson has produced one of the finest running careers in program history. He earned All-America honors this past season where he finished ninth in the 400 meters at the NCAA II Indoor Track & Field National Championship. He also took second in the 400 meters and third in the 4x400 relay at the SAC Indoor Championship. For his efforts, he was named the Tusculum Male Athlete of the Year.

In 2022, he was the SAC Gold Medalist in the 400 meters and the 4x400 relay. He was also a silver medalist in the 400 meters and 4x400 relay at the 2022 SAC Championship. He is a two-time Tusculum team most valuable performer and a three-time All-Region selection.

Adderley, a senior from Nassau, Bahamas, graduated from Tusculum with cum laude honors with a 3.59 GPA while majoring in sports science. She is a member of the TU Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

Adderley finished sixth this season in the 4x100 relay at the SAC Outdoor Championship and ninth in the 4x400 relay at the SAC Indoor Championship. She also ranks ninth in the 200 meters. She earned first place honors in the 100 meters at the Montreat Open and ranks in Tusculum's top-10 in 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters.

The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Cross Country and Track & Field Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the track and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
