ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University swept the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week awards, the SAC office announced Tuesday.
Junior sprinter Widchard Guervil earned the men's honor after setting two school records and qualifying for nationals in a pair of events at the USC Open on Saturday, while graduate distance runner Nicole McMillen took the women's award after setting her third school and conference record of the season and qualifying for nationals in her third event of the year.
Guervil won the 60 meters in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6.72 seconds, and set a school record and provisionally qualified for nationals in the 200 meters with a third-place finish in 21.29 seconds. Guervil also ran in the men's 4x400-meter relay which finished third and broke the school record with a time of 3:20.99.
McMillen claimed her third SAC and school record of the winter with a fourth-place finish in the mile at South Carolina, running 4:53.57 to break her school record by nearly five seconds and the conference record by 2 1/2 seconds. McMillen ranks inside the top 20 on the NCAA Division II performance list in the mile, and is among the top-ranked in the country in both the 3000 meters and 5000 meters.
The Pioneers will compete at the SAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, Feb. 29 and Sunday, March 1 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
