Tusculum jumps to 17th in NFCA poll

LOUISVILLE, Ky. --- The Tusculum University softball team jumped six spots in the NFCA/GoRout DII Top 25 Coaches Poll to 17th after a 29-1 start this season.

The 2025 NFCA/Go Rout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll is voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee. The committee consists of 16 NCAA Division II head coaches with two representing each of the NCAA's eight regions. Records reflect games played through March 9.

The Pioneers now lead all three levels of the NCAA with 29 victories.

Tusculum is in the top-10 in 12 statistical categories: win-loss percentage (1st; .967), stolen bases (1st; 106), triple plays (2nd; 1), total runs (3rd; 248), hits (3rd; 310), runs batted in (4th; 214), scoring (4th; 8.27), stolen bases per game (4th; 3.53), RBI per game (6th; 7.13), batting average (6th; .364), doubles (8th; 59), and triples (8th; 16).

Individually, three Pioneers lead the country in a respective category: Brooke Smith in runs (44), Danielle Jason in steals (36), and Natalie Spaitis in saves (5). Smith is also fourth in runs per game (1.47) and fifth in stolen bases (26). Jason is second in steals per game (1.20) and tied for sixth in runs with Ellie Alvarez (40). Gabi Nicholson and Sammy Jimenez are fourth and fifth in runs batted in with 40 and 38, respectively. Megan Ackerman is top-10 in four pitching categories: fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (14.20), fifth in victories (13), sixth in walks allowed per seven innings (.44), and ninth in appearances (20).

Tusculum (29-1, 8-0 SAC) plays at archrival Carson-Newman on Tuesday (Mar. 18) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
