
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Megan Ackerman has earned the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance in the first week of league action.
Ackerman had three wins and a save in four appearances last week as the Pioneers extended their winning streak to 12 games and improved to 25-1 with SAC doubleheader sweeps of Coker and Anderson.
In the sweep of Coker on Tuesday, Ackerman threw a five-inning complete game in a 12-2 win in game one, and needed one pitch to secure the victory in relief in game two by a 7-6 score. Against Anderson on Saturday, Ackerman tossed a two-hit shutout and struck out five in a 5-0 victory in the opener, and closed the game with two strikeouts in the seventh as the Pioneers rallied for a 6-5 win in the nightcap.
The Gray, Tennessee native is 11-1 in 18 appearances (11 starts) with three saves and a 2.88 earned run average this season. Ackerman has struck out 57 batters and walked just five in 65 2/3 innings, with a streak of 26 straight innings without allowing a base on balls. She ranks third in victories and fourth in appearances nationally, while seventh in strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.40).
