Reynolds earns SAC BMI Postgraduate Scholarship

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University softball student-athlete Keylon Reynolds has been named the 2023-2024 recipient of the South Atlantic Conference's Bob McCloskey Insurance (BMI) Postgraduate Scholarship.

Reynolds, a senior pitcher from Kingston, Tennessee graduated from Tusculum last month with summa cum laude honors while earning her Bachelor of Science degree. She posted a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average and majored in biology and medical pre-professional with minors in chemistry and mathematics.

"The SAC is very appreciative of the continued support of Bob McCloskey Insurance for these scholarships," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "Keylon has dedicated herself to being a student-athlete and is very deserving of this award. The SAC is very proud of her academic and athletic achievements and wish her the best in her postgraduate studies."

She served as vice president of the Kappa Delta Eta Chapter of the TriBeta Honor Society and is a two-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. She was named the Tusculum Female Student-Athlete Academic Achievement award winner on three occasions and was the Tusculum Female Freshman of the Year Academic Award recipient in 2021. She is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List, President's List and the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

"We are honored to be able to help support the student-athletes of the South Atlantic Conference," Peter Ginnegar, Senior Vice President of BMI stated. "We know that the cost of higher education can be difficult to manage, but we hope these scholarships will allow these deserving student-athletes the opportunity to complete their degrees."

During her 61 career appearances in the pitching circle at Tusculum, she pitched in 152 innings where she recorded 117 strikeouts and a 4.33 earned run average. She made 21 starts and accounted for an 8-9 record with two saves. She is also an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete.

In the community, she was a Nettie Day volunteer for three years and a Tiger Time Volunteer at the Tusculum View Elementary school for multiple years. She also volunteered through Wreaths Across America and Angel Tree. She was a volunteer pianist at First Baptist Church in Kingston and also delivered Thanksgiving Day meals for Hand Up in Enterprise, Alabama. She plans to get her Doctorate in Optometry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham's School of Optometry.

"It is an honor to be chosen as the recipient of this scholarship," said Reynolds. "I would like to thank the Tusculum University science department as well as my coaches for pushing me to achieve my academic goals. This scholarship will help me set a foundation before beginning my postgraduate education at UABSO." 

The BMI postgraduate scholarships are awarded to SAC student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and have completed their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Reynolds will receive a one-time, non-renewable scholarship of $2,000 toward graduate school.
