Softball Ends February at Home, Looks to Build on Program's Best Start

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University softball team is set to welcome the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors to Red Edmonds Field on Tuesday. The conference-opening doubleheader at UVa-Wise, previously scheduled for Tuesday, has been postponed one week and Saturday's contests with Goldey-Beacom have been canceled.

RECAPPING THE WEEK
The Pioneers went 4-0 at home over the weekend, winning thrillers over Cedarville and Davis & Elkins. Tusculum's 10-2 start to the season is the best in program history.

Chloe Freischmidt had a career weekend, hitting over .500 in the four-game weekend. She launched two grand slams, her first in a Pioneer uniform, and game-winning hit. She also scored five runs, hit two doubles among six hits, and batted 11 runners in. Alexis Grampp also had a solid weekend, including a 4-for-4 showing with two doubles and a homer in game one against Cedarville. Ivee Richesin picked up two wins on the weekend, allowing no earned runs in 6.2 innings of action, along with five strikeouts.

As a team, Tusculum ranks among the top-30 across Division II in many major categories, including home runs per game (15th; 1.08), scoring (16th; 7.58), home runs (18th; 13), hit by pitch (21st; 14), on base percentage (22nd; .427), batting average (23rd; .333), triples (26th; 5), hit batters (27th; 2), total runs (29th; 91), and triples per game (29th; .42).

Individually, Anna Alloway is ranked within the top-25 across the nation in on base percentage (13th; .652), runs per game (13th; 1.50), homeruns (17th; 4), slugging percentage (18th; .972), and batting average (25th; .556). Grampp and Sammie West are tied for 16th in triples with two.

LOOKING AHEAD
Southern Wesleyan (8-4) and Tusculum will square off as each team's lone series of the week. Lydia Clanton has played every game, averaging .344 at the plate, alongside a .421 on base percentage and .531 slugging rate. She has 11 hits, including three for extra bases, with six runs scored, four walks, and two steals. Delaney Byers has 10 hits, nine runs scored, nine walks drawn, five RBI, and three stolen bases. Leading the pitching staff with seven appearances, Delanie Laudenbacher has a record of 3-1 with two complete games. The junior has compiled a 0.99 ERA with 35 strikeouts and four earned runs.
