SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum College
softball team suffered two losses from Catawba College on Saturday
afternoon in Salisbury, North Carolina. The Indians won the first
game 4-0 before taking the second contest 5-4 on a walkoff
single.
Tusculum falls to an even 14-14 overall and 4-6 in the SAC
while Catawba improves to 14-12 and 3-5 in the league. TC will be
back in action on Tuesday when they play host to Anderson
University for a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Red Edmonds Field.

Carley Tisinger had 12 strikeouts en route to her ninth win of
the season as Catwaba defeated Tusculum 4-0 in the first game of
the doubleheader.
Tisinger (10-6) surrendered just three hits and two walks in
the winning effort. Rachel Medley (5-8) suffered the loss after
allowing two earned runs on five hits in just an inning and a third
of work. Cayla Cecil pitched five and a third innings in relief and
tallied four strikeouts.
The Indians put up a run in each bottom half of the first and
second innings. Taylor Adams hit an RBI single for the first run of
the game while Kimberly Fesperman scored the second run on a wild
pitch. Caroline Turner and Holli Chandler each had RBI doubles as
Catawba took a 4-0 lead after five complete.
The Pioneers threatened to put runs on the board after getting
runners in scoring positions it the top of the first and second
innings, including a double by Treslyn Reese, but couldn't push
anything across the plate.
Cecil and Kaytlin Stroinski each hit doubles in the fourth and
sixth innings respectively but the Pioneers trailed 4-0 heading to
the seventh inning. Robin Stoner reached base on an error in the
frame, but Tisinger struck out Carolyn Williamson to end the game.

Reese hit her seventh homerun of the year, but Katherine
Shumaker hit a walkoff single after Catawba erased a 4-1 deficit
and claimed a 5-4 victory to complete the doubleheader
sweep.
Nicole Ball finished 2-for-3 at the plate for Tusculum while
Brooke Rhodes drove in two runs with a double. Shumaker had three
RBIs on two hits while Taylor Adams had two hits and a pair of
RBIs.
Tysinger won her second game of the day after striking out
seven and giving up just one hit in three innings in relief. Eliza
Davis took the loss after surrendering 14 hits and five earned
runs.
After Catawba jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning,
Reese took Catawba starter Turner deep to right field to tie the
game at 1-1 after an inning and a half. TC jumped out to a 4-1 lead
with three runs in the top of the third. Ball and Alix Kruel each
had singles to open the frame, and were both in scoring position
when Rhodes drove them in with the two-bagger. Rhodes later came
home to score on a throwing error by Catawba third baseman
Adams.
With Tysinger taking care of business in the circle, Catawba
made the score 4-3 with a two-run sixth inning. The Indians
completed the comeback after tying the game at 4-4 on Adam's double
in the bottom of the seventh before Shumaker pushed across the
game-winner two batters later.
