GAFFNEY, S.C. --- The Tusculum softball team
swept a doubleheader at Limestone by identical 3-1 scores in both
games. The Pioneers improve to 13-20 overall, while the Saints fall
to 19-25.
In game one, the contest was scoreless until the bottom of the
fifth when Limestone's Samantha Weaver hit a home
run over the left field fence to put the Saints up 1-0.
Tusculum answered in the top of the sixth on a triple by
Racheal Wilburn, who went on to score on a
Limestone error. The two teams ended the seventh tied at 1-1.
With Alex Kimbrell on second, Lesli Huerta laid
down a sacrifice bunt to move Kimbrell to third. Anna
Johnson blasted a two-run homer to move the Pioneers up
3-1. The Saints left two runners in scoring position as the next
three Limestone batters failed to connect.
Megan DuBois got the win improving to 4-5 on the
season. Limestone's Emily Wallace was credited
with the loss, falling to 11-11.
In game two, Tusculum jumped out with a 2-0 lead in the second on
a RBI double by Kimbrell. Tusculum went up 3-0 in the third,
scoring on an error. Limestone mustered one run on a RBI double by
Lindsey Gladden.
DuBois picked up another win improving to 5-5 on the season, as
Lisa DeMarr got the loss falling to 5-9 on the year.
Tusculum returns to action on Monday as the Pioneers host No. 25
Lenoir-Rhyne in a South Atlantic Conference tilt at Red Edmonds
Field beginning at 2 p.m.
