BREVARD, N.C. --- Brie Griffin became Tusculum softball's all-time home run leader as the Pioneers swept a non-conference doubleheader over host Brevard Friday afternoon. Tusculum (4-0) won the opener 12-0 in five innings and rallied in the night-cap with three-runs late in the game to win 4-3.
In game one, Tusculum scored in each of the first three innings, including an eight-run third as the Pioneers prevailed 12-0. Griffin (Glendale, Ariz.) went 3-for-4, including a two-run homer in the third, her 21st of her career, the most ever in the storied history of the program. In the contest, Griffin also posted a single and a double.
Anna Johnson also went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Judith Saavedra (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Chrissy Wilkison (Lake Forest, Calif.) each finished with two hits apiece.
Pitcher Megan DuBois (Chino, Calif.) recorded a two-hit shutout as she struck out two to improve her season record to 2-0.
In the second game, Wilkison came through with a clutch one-out, three-run double as the Pioneers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the night-cap 4-3.
Brevard scored a run in the first and second innings, before Tusculum got on the board when Ashley Basilicato (East Patchogue, N.Y.) scored from second on a failed pickoff attempt.
Holli Cadenhead (Van Vleck, Texas) relieved TC starter Kassie Killion (Coolidge, Ariz.) in the fifth inning and tossed three innings, allowed a run, three hits and struck out three to record her first collegiate victory.
Tusculum returns to action on Saturday when the Pioneers host the University of Indianapolis for a doubleheader at Red Edmonds Field beginning at 1 p.m.
