
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team suffered its first home loss of the season against 16th-ranked Lincoln Memorial on Tuesday (Mar. 18) in Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) play.
The Pioneers (11-10, 0-2 IVA) fell to the ranked Railsplitters (15-1, 2-0 IVA) by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 25-14.
Both Matthew Gentry and Eliel Salva Torres notched nine kills for LMU as they hit .500 and .750, respectively. John Luers dished out 33 assists, while Gentry led the way with three aces. Johan Negron and Griffin Wheatley each recorded six digs with the latter credited with five total blocks as well.
Deklan Wingo finished with nine kills to lead the Pioneers, followed by Joel Dubinsky (6), Morgan Makovec (4), Aiden Roper (4), Kevin Blankenship (1), and Caleb Hammann (1). Blankenship distributed 20 assists, while Wingo landed the lone TU ace. Roper tallied seven digs as Dubinsky was credited with a pair of rejections.
Lincoln Memorial hit .410 as a team with 40 kills and eight errors on 78 total attempts. Tusculum hit .137 with 25 kills, 15 errors, and 73 total attacks. The Railsplitters led the match in assists (34-23), service aces (10-1), and total blocks (7-3), while the Pioneers recorded more digs (26-24).
Tusculum hosts King next Wednesday (Mar. 26), looking to round out the season sweep. First serve from Pioneer Arena is scheduled for 6 p.m.
